Best Lawyer Orange County

Scott C. Thomas, Law Office of Scott C. Thomas

Q: What inspired you to become a lawyer?

ST: My desire to help others. There is nothing more satisfying than advocating for someone, prevailing, then watching the person go on to thrive as a productive member of society as a result of my efforts.

Q: What sets you apart from the other lawyers in Orange County?

ST: My skill set and my empathy. I’m very good at what I do and I strive to make an uncomfortable and scary experience as palatable as possible for my clients. All my clients have my cell phone [number] and I’m always available because I know just how stressful and frightening these situations can be.

Q: What has been your most interesting case?

ST: Probably a medical marijuana appeal I won that was certified for publication in 2014 and has since been used by countless other defendants, facing similar charges, to aid in their defense.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of being a criminal lawyer?

ST: Aside from helping people, I would say the most rewarding aspect of my job is putting a check on governmental authority. It’s my job to represent my clients and make sure they are treated fairly by the courts, prosecution and law enforcement.

Sandra Miller, Miller & Miller-Bazemore Estate Planning Lawyers

Q: How does it feel to be voted as one of Orange County’s favorite lawyers?

Sandra Miller: I am flattered and honored. I am just celebrating 40 years of practicing law, and to be respected and liked by my peers and clients is a great compliment.

Q: What inspired you to become an attorney?

SM: Before I became an attorney, I was a newspaper editor. When I was in my 20s, my late husband and I owned weekly newspapers in Long Beach and Signal Hill. The paper was courageous in publishing stories about public corruption. I then served for four years on the Signal Hill City Council, where I fought for certain reforms. I felt that, as an attorney, I could be even more effective in fighting the good fight.

Q: What has been your most interesting case?

SM: Some years ago, a Long Beach judge actually allowed the issue of ‘dog custody’ in my case to be litigated in his courtroom. That was ‘interesting.’

Q: How does it feel to be awarded the Lawyer of the Year by the Long Beach Bar Association?

SM: This was the greatest honor of my career. I had served as President of Women Lawyers, as a member of the Board of Governors of the Long Beach Bar and had been Women Lawyers Lawyer of the Year, but this honor capped them all. I am humbled to have been chosen to be the Lawyer of the Year of this 90-year-old organization, which has 600-some members. I was and am thrilled and grateful.

Shadi Sheidayi, Law Offices of Shadi Sheidayi

Q: How does it feel to be voted as one of Orange County’s favorite lawyers?

Shadi Sheidayi: It is very humbling. I always try to provide the best service possible to my clients and to the community as a whole, so to be voted as one of OC’s favorite lawyers is an honor.

Q: What inspired you to become a lawyer?

SS: My grandfather was an attorney so I guess it is a part of me. But, more importantly, for me being a lawyer means protecting the rights and interests of individuals and helping people attain their goals. That is something that I am very passionate about.

Q: Why did you choose to focus on immigration law?

SS: I’m an immigrant myself so I understand first-hand all the things that come with immigrating to a new country and wanting to start a new life. I was brought here as a child and I saw my parents go through the immigration system in the hopes of living the American Dream. To help people through this process is a way for me to give back to the community with the experience and knowledge that I’ve been privileged to have in this great country.

Q: What factors do you believe led you to be among the top 10 Best Immigration Attorneys for California by the American Institute of Legal Counsel?

SS: Caring for my clients and truly getting to know them; spending ample time with them and on their cases; being up front with them about immigration consequences and what to expect; responding to their inquiries in a timely fashion; answering all questions thoroughly and providing a strong support system for them during such a crucial time in their lives.
