Some of the best hiking in Southern California can be found in the Coachella Valley. With landscapes that run from rocky mountain tops to desert flatland, there’s a trail that will fit almost anyone’s athletic ability. In La Quinta, try the La Quinta Cove to Lake Cahuilla Trail which is a moderate, two-hour hike that will take your through some of the area’s rocky hills and down to the picturesque Lake Cahuilla.

Biking through a city can be a great way to get to know a town, but biking through La Quinta will grant you much more than just a layout of the land. Several biking tours offer one-of-a-kind views of the surrounding environment, including the San Andreas Fault, the Salton Sea, Mount San Jacinto and Box Canyon. If you’d prefer a leisurely pedal around town, hop on an electric bike at Pedego La Quinta and take it easy!

When you’re ready to take chillax, head over to the La Quinta Resort & Club for some low-key recreational fun and good times. The property is home to some of the most popular tennis courts in the world, visited by names like Novak Djokovic to Maria Sharapova. Take a class with a USPTA-certified instructor or knock the ball around with your friends. If golf is your game, tee up on one of five golf courses, three of which are at PGA West. Need to take it easy? Opt for one of the resort’s guided outdoor yoga classes that run from low-impact meditation to Warrior Yoga that can strengthen and sculpt the body.

It’s great to hike through the mountains surrounding La Quinta, but the Coachella Valley is surrounded by such extensive ranges that it can feel a little overwhelming to know not only which trails offer the best views, but which are the safest for your hiking level. Not to worry! Join one of the groups at Tallgrass Hiking Tours, guided hikes that can take you on everything from an agricultural and renewable energy tour to hikes through Big Morongo Canyon Preserve and Joshua Tree National Park.
