Our 12 Favorite Spots in the Hipster Hub of Silver Lake

From Healthy Restaurants to Trendy Wine Bars, There Is No Shortage of Fun in This Funky Neighborhood!

Though it might not get the same coverage as areas like Beverly Hills and Santa Monica, East LA has its own charm that better suits a more laid-back and quirky crowd. One of the territory’s most popular neighborhoods is without a doubt the hipster hub of Silver Lake. From bohemian-style restaurants that serve farm-fresh dishes to coffee shops that make you feel like you’re sipping on a latte in Brooklyn, here is our guide to experiencing the best of Silver Lake. Silver Lake Itinerary

Bacari Silver Lake

Bacari Silver Lake provides a magical and enchanting atmosphere that is filled with lush greenery and an endless array of string lights to create the most inviting dining experience. “We wanted to bring a sense of home to all our guests—like a true neighborhood restaurant,” says co-owner Robert Kronfli. “Whether you’re a family bringing your kids in to dine or a group of friends hitting the town for a late night, we want our guests to feel right at home during their time with us.” The food is served tapas-style, meaning you’ll want to order several things to share. Don’t leave without trying the Asian pear and brie pizza, Green Falafel and Oaxacan pasta. When it comes to drinks, there is no denying that Bacari has some of the most flavorful and innovative craft cocktails in Silver Lake—you won’t be able to only have one! Try the Mad Mango Sour and the La Brea Rose!

Inspired by the original and authentic flavors of Ensenada, this iconic taco shack transports customers to the famous fishing village in Mexico with its masterful take on tacos. If you’re looking for a delicious yet affordable lunch, this is the perfect spot. Order some of their homemade Sessy Salsa and a few of their Baja-style tacos before watching some hilarious stand-up at their free comedy show on the first and third Tuesday of every month (some say it’s the best in LA).

Specializing in seasonal California cuisine, Botanica will leave you feeling healthier and happier. “My business partner, Heather Sperling, and I were both food editors before opening Botanica,” explains co-owner Emily Fiffer. “We just didn’t see the kinds of foods that we craved in restaurants, so we decided to open one of our own.” The ladies also decided to place a focus on having an open kitchen that practices non-aggression, creating an inviting and cohesive environment.

Broome Street General Store

Selling specialty and gourmet foods, decor and products that are sourced from around the world, Broome Street General Store provides a one-of-a-kind shopping experience right in the heart of Silver Lake. Pick up some fresh ingredients for the perfect charcuterie board or simply browse around and see what catches your eye! Either way, you won’t be able to walk out empty-handed.

L&E Oyster Bar has the charm of a quaint neighborhood spot with the quality of a high-end restaurant. Sourcing some of the best oysters in North America, L&E Oyster Bar can add a bit of luxury to your day. Snag a seat in their European-inspired dining room for some fresh shellfish and bubbly. If oysters aren’t really your thing, grab a table on their Parisian-style patio and order their crispy fish and chips or refreshing shrimp cocktail!

Magpies Softserve

In our opinion, no day is complete without a sweet treat. That’s why a visit to Magpies Softserve  is a non-negotiable when exploring Silver Lake! With all of their flavors and toppings made in-house, there really is something for everyone at Magpies. While some of their flavors like Sweet Cream are made traditionally with real milk, their vegan flavors, such as Snickerdoodle and Corn Almond, are just as satisfying.
