Here’s Your Guide to the Full Modernism Week Fall Preview Online Experience

Even if you can’t make it to Palm Springs this month, luckily you can still attend Modernism Week Fall Preview Online Experience, which is a virtual event taking place now through Oct. 31. You can view any or all seven events—similar to those that you would see in person—from the luxury of your home. Ticket prices range from $5 to $35 per event, and two films are free. When you purchase events, they will be available for online viewing for 30 days. Here’s a look at what to expect from each online offering. 

 

1 | Modernism Week Signature Home Tour Video Series Virtual Modernism Preview Week

70 minutes | $35

You will virtually tour interiors and gardens of some of the most stunning homes in Palm Springs to see what makes the desert architecture so unique.

 

2 | Charles Phoenix PALM SPRINGSLAND Virtual Modernism Preview Week

40 minutes | $35

Midcentury pop culture expert Charles Phoenix will take you on an entertaining video driving tour of desert homes, retro resorts and both commercial and civic buildings while exploring the style that has made Palm Springs famous.

 

3 | Fast Forward: Designing the Future of Palm Springs

6 hours | $25

This is part one of a two-part conference that will feature discussions by a professional panel of speakers as they make recommendations for design guidelines for the future of Palm Springs.

 

4 | Mod With a Twist: Best of Twist 2020 Virtual Modernism Preview Week

50 minutes | $15

These five presentations will educate you on interesting aspects of midcentury modern life. You’ll see presentations of topics like “HiFi Living” by Bob Bogard, “Think Pink” by Laura J. Hein and “The Real Mad Men” by Richard Hovel.

 

5 | Film: Preserving Modernism: The Town & Country Center

Approximate viewing time is 20 minutes | Free

This documentary tells the story of the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation’s efforts to save this historic complex.

 

6 | Film: The Restoration and Stabilization of the Cornelia White Residence

Approximate viewing time is 20 minutes | Free

This film documents the preservation effort of a historic residence that was built in 1893 out of “recycled” railroad ties.
