Not “Another” Gin Cocktail: The South Bay Spots Doing Gin Justice

The Best Another Hendrick’s Cocktails in the South Bay

Gin has a reputation for being a little aloof, a little bitter, the drink your uncle orders and nobody questions. Hendrick’s Gin changed that math years ago with its cucumber-and-rose signature, and its newest release, Another Hendrick’s, doubles down with orange blossom and cacao for something warmer and a little more mischievous.

It turns out some of the best South Bay bars stock it. Not every menu calls it out by name, so when a cocktail just lists gin, you’ll know what to ask for. These 10 spots prove gin season never really ended here. Grab your girls, your good sunglasses and maybe a light jacket for the patio. Here’s where to order Another Hendrick’s and drink it right.

The Open Bar Favorite Growing a Gin Garden

Bacari PDR built its name on a 90-minute open bar special, but the craft cocktail list is where things get interesting. The Gin ‘n Juice mixes gin with Aperol, yuzu, basil and orange bitters. Order it with Another Hendrick’s, and the gin’s orange blossom leans right into all that citrus. Feeling adventurous? The Tree Shadow goes further, layering gin with rum, yuzu, juiced celery, bell pepper, Thai basil and a cloud of passionfruit foam, a drink that reads more like a garden than a glass. Ask for Another Hendrick’s as the base. Chef Lior Hillel’s Venetian-inspired small plates pair easily with either one, and the breezy outdoor patio makes it worth the drive up the coast.

The Beach Villa That Takes Its Tequila (and Gin) Seriously

Esperanza Cocina de la Playa looks like a Los Cabos resort dropped straight onto Manhattan Beach Boulevard, and the bar program matches the ambition. Head Mixologists John Fox and Kevin Williams built out one of the most extensive tequila and mezcal collections in the South Bay, but they didn’t forget gin drinkers. The Rico Suave lets you choose between Grey Goose La Poire vodka and Hendrick’s Gin, mixed with St-Germain, organic sweet and sour and muddled cucumber and jalapeño. Go gin and ask for Another Hendrick’s for a drink that’s floral up front and spicy on the finish. The Cucumber Jalapeño Martini offers the same choose-your-spirit setup with Tito’s or Hendrick’s, muddled cucumber and jalapeño and fresh lime, and it’s just as good with Another Hendrick’s. Order either one on the rooftop and watch the sunset do the rest.

The Paris-Style Bistro Made for Apero Hour

Coucou brought its Paris-by-way-of-the-Westside energy south when it opened its third location, following Venice and West Hollywood, just a block from the Manhattan Beach Pier. Co-founders Jesse and Hayley Feldman designed the space with white oak floors and floor-to-ceiling glass, making it the most relaxed of the three. Order the Vesper, the classic Bond order of gin, vodka and Lillet Blanc, and ask for it with Another Hendrick’s so the orange blossom and cacao round out the edges instead of the usual sharp bite. Come for Apero Hour, stay for the Soft Serve Sundae, and if it’s Monday, the all-day Martini Monday makes the case for a second round.

The Martini Upgrade Worth the Ask

JOEY Manhattan Beach is the kind of sprawling, sun-drenched restaurant built for groups, with a 2,160-square-foot patio and enough menu variety to please everyone at the table. The bar keeps pace with the energy of the room, and the cocktail list is where it shows. The JOEY Martini comes with Ketel One vodka or gin, dry vermouth and an olive hand-stuffed with blue cheese, plus an extra martini on the side (because one pour is never quite enough). The move is to upgrade the gin and ask for Another Hendrick’s, where the orange blossom and cacao play against that briny, funky olive. Swing by during happy hour, and the whole night gets even easier to justify.

The Oceanfront Spritz Built for a Crowd

The Strand House has been Manhattan Beach’s go-to for sweeping Pacific views and elevated coastal California cuisine for years, just steps from the pier. Upstairs is the five-star dining room. Downstairs, StrandBar keeps the same ocean glow going after dark, with panoramic views, DJ sets and live music. The Watermelon & Basil Spritz is the one to order: gin, watermelon, fresh lime, torn basil, Chareau aloe liqueur and prosecco. Ask for it with Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom and cacao add a little depth to all that juicy watermelon. Rolling deep? It comes in a shareable size for six to 10 people. Order it upstairs while the light does its golden-hour thing, then head down to StrandBar when the night picks up.

The Mezze Hot Spot Mixing Gin Two Ways

AttaGirl brought Chefs Alice Mai and David LeFevre’s live-fire, mezze-heavy menu to Hermosa Beach, and its cocktail list leans into Southern European flavors built for a salty day at the beach. The Velvet Hoof takes the Moscow mule formula and swaps in gin, alongside Small Hand Foods ginger syrup, Dolin dry vermouth, Fever-Tree ginger beer, pink peppercorn and lemon. The Life Is Peachy runs a white negroni instead, with gin, dry vermouth, Luxardo Bitter Bianco, Rothman & Winter Orchard Peach and thyme, bitter and stone fruit playing nicer than expected. Order either one with Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom picks up the ginger in one and the peach in the other. Either way, you’ve earned a seat at the bar.

The Riviera Village Seafood Spot With a Twist on the Classics

Credit: Kim Fox Photos

Salt & Pearl is more than a seafood and steakhouse. It’s a full coastal dining experience in the heart of Riviera Village, elevated yet approachable, with fresh coastal cuisine and an extensive craft cocktail program. The bar loves a creative spin on a classic. The Long Goodbye is its take on a gimlet, with coconut milk fat-washed strawberry navy-strength gin, melon, citrus and celery bitters. La Nonna gives the Negroni a bold twist with Condesa gin, La Luna mezcal, Luxardo maraschino, Carpano Bianco vermouth and citrus oils. Order La Nonna with Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom and cacao play right off the mezcal’s smoke. Pair it with a round of fresh oysters, or make a night of the S&P Supper, a $42 three-course prix fixe on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Add weekend brunch, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and there’s something for every occasion.

The ’70s-Inspired Lounge Doing the Most (in a Good Way)

The Fox Den took over the longtime Pat’s II dive at Pacific Coast Highway and Avenue F and turned it into a terracotta-and-emerald fever dream, the Redondo Beach sister to Hermosa Beach’s Fox & Farrow. The cocktail list leans hard into its retro bones, and gin drinkers have two solid options. The Stone Cold Fox lets you choose Chopin vodka or Hendrick’s Gin, shaken extra cold with olive juice and house-made blue-cheese-stuffed queen olives. Go gin and ask for Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom and cacao play against all that brine. The Aviation is built on Hendrick’s Gin with fresh lemon juice, maraschino liqueur and crème de violette for a lavender-hued classic done right, and it’s a natural fit for Another Hendrick’s too.

The Resort Dining Room With Catalina in View

Catalina Kitchen sits inside Terranea Resort on the Palos Verdes Peninsula, and true to its name, it comes with sweeping views of Catalina Island and the Pacific. Chef de Cuisine Robert Montes runs a New American menu with a coastal twist, built on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients, and the cocktail list keeps pace. The Evergreen Grove is the signature to know: Hendrick’s Gin with pear puree, lemon, rosemary and Fever-Tree Ginger Beer, a bright, herbal pour that drinks like fall on the coast. Order it with Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom and cacao give the pear and rosemary a warmer, rounder finish. It’s on the lunch and dinner menus, so book a table, settle in and take in the view.

The Neighborhood Spot With a Co-Owner Namesake

Jame Enoteca is the first restaurant from husband-and-wife duo Chef Jackson Kalb, a “Top Chef” alum, and Melissa Kalb, and the hand-rolled pasta gets equal billing with the bar program. Most of the cocktails are named for people, and the one named for Melissa is the one to order: Hendrick’s Gin with St-Germain, sauvignon and lemon, finished with a lime twist. Ask for it with Another Hendrick’s, and the orange blossom picks up right where the elderflower leaves off. It’s floral without tipping into syrupy, which tracks for a restaurant built on getting the small, precise things right. Swing by for aperitivo hour, 3–5 p.m. daily at the bar, and you’ll understand why this stretch of Main Street has become such a draw.

Q&A

A: Every spot on this list carries Another Hendrick’s, and most of their gin cocktails can be made with it on request. Try the Rico Suave at Esperanza Cocina de la Playa, the Melissa Kalb at Jame Enoteca, the Aviation at The Fox Den or the Evergreen Grove at Catalina Kitchen, all built on Hendrick’s Gin. Or go for La Nonna at Salt & Pearl in Redondo Beach or the Life Is Peachy at AttaGirl in Hermosa Beach. Just ask for Another Hendrick’s when you order.

Q: What is Another Hendrick’s Gin?

A: Another Hendrick’s is the brand’s first new permanent expression in nearly a decade, built on the classic rose-and-cucumber base and layered with orange blossom and cacao for a citrus-forward, slightly sweet finish.

Q: What’s the best gin cocktail for a beach day in Manhattan Beach?

A: The Watermelon & Basil Spritz at The Strand House is a light, bubbly pick steps from the Manhattan Beach Pier, with watermelon, fresh lime, torn basil, Chareau and prosecco. Ask for it with Another Hendrick’s, and go for the shareable size if you’re with a group.

Q: What’s the most adventurous Another Hendrick’s cocktail in the South Bay?

A: Bacari PDR’s Tree Shadow takes the top spot. It mixes gin with rum, yuzu, juiced celery, bell pepper, Thai basil and a passionfruit foam for something that drinks more like a garden than a glass. Order it with Another Hendrick’s.

Q: Where is the best martini upgrade with Another Hendrick’s Gin?

A: At JOEY Manhattan Beach, upgrade the gin in the JOEY Martini to Another Hendrick’s. It comes with dry vermouth, a blue-cheese-stuffed olive and an extra martini on the side, and the orange blossom and cacao play nicely against that briny olive.
