Ready to get in on the fun? This August, Volo Sports is hosting an epic kickball tournament at Point Loma’s iconic NTC Park at Liberty Station, taking full advantage of the warm weather—with an added summer-inspired twist. It’s a cup-in-hand tournament, meaning players get to have a cup full of their beverage of choice during play. It’s an added challenge, but hey—you’ll need hydration during a day full of sports and sun, right?! Come one, come all, come experienced, come novice—everyone is welcome, and there are prizes for more than just the winning team. Here are four reasons to play in this epic competition this August!

1 | A Sip-and-Play Tournament

Sip, play, hooray! What is sip-and-play style, you ask? It’s exactly what it sounds like. It’s kickball with a twist! Each team plays the game as they normally would, except this time, players can enjoy a boozy beverage (or not so boozy, depending on your preference) while playing. Beer, water, kombucha, tea—whatever you’d like! For example, if you’re running the bases but lose all your liquid, you’re out. The same goes for if you’ve caught the ball in the outfield; if you lose your liquid doing it, they’re safe. It’s all the fun of kickball with higher stakes! We’ll welcome any challenge that brings us our favorite beverages by default. Bring in the next pitcher—either one, we’ll need both!

2 | The Afterparty at GoodBar

It wouldn’t be a Volo tournament without a little post-game party fun. After all, that’s half of what the Volo experience is all about—an opportunity to make friends, create community and let loose. Neighborhood favorite Goodbar in Point Loma will be hosting the afterparty, offering 15% off every player’s tab, plus fan-favorite deals like $5 Michelob Ultra draft or bottles and $18 Michelob Ultra pitchers all night long. We told you there’d be more than one kind of pitcher. Plus, they’ve got delicious bar food classics: tons of cheesesteak options, wings, fish tacos and more. Goodbar is just a 3-minute drive or 15-minute walk from the tournament, so if you end up celebrating a huge win, there’s no driving necessary. Celebrate the night away.

3 | A Costume Contest + Giveaways

There’s more than one chance to win at the summer kickball tournament, and first-timers can expect a few sweet surprises. Keeping in tune with the bar specials to follow, there will be complimentary beer provided by Michelob Ultra for participating teams, ensuring nobody will be without a beverage in hand. If that isn’t enough to fill your cup, there will also be special giveaways from sponsors like San Diego’s own Blenders Eyewear, Buffalo Wild Wings and more. Costumes are heavily encouraged as well. Plan ahead with your squad and prepare to win best dressed! Winning based on luck is one thing, but a win from looking better than everyone is another. Coordinate your costumes, bring your A-game, and walk away with bragging rights (or beer)!

4 | An Epic Location

Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder. And even if you weren’t required to hold a beverage during the game, the location of this year’s tournament is stunning nonetheless. The tournament will be held at Liberty Station’s NTC Park—a gorgeous field that runs along a serene slice of San Diego Bay. However, due to the exceptional scenery, you may have to fight feeling distracted in the outfield.

To make your day stress-free, there will be a ton of free parking surrounding NTC Park. What’s more, it’s surrounded by Liberty Station’s abundant food, drink and shopping options, making it the perfect location for a sunny day tournament!
