Belmont Park’s Cannonball Serves Up Stellar Sushi and Sunset Views

Settle in for a Seaside Rooftop Dining Experience in San Diego Like No Other

What screams San Diego more than sunshine, a salty breeze and sushi? The answer: not much—at least when it comes to satisfying a craving. Next time you’re strolling along the buzzy Mission Beach boardwalk, pop into Belmont Park’s beloved Cannonball. Set on this sandy strip, this rooftop restaurant in San Diego promises world-class sushi and panoramic ocean views. And now, it offers a recently spiced up menu.

Since 2015, Cannonball’s “coastal meets contemporary” rooftop dining has been drawing San Diegans and sojourners from far and wide. Get cozy on the lounge seating and near a fire pit on those balmy summer evenings. As you might imagine, this spot is easy to enjoy with a date, a flock of friends or even during a solo moment.

When it comes to food and drinks, a team of culinary connoisseurs were consulted in the making of the new menu—namely Cannonball’s Corporate Executive Chef Jarrod Moiles, Belmont Park Executive Chef Luis Romero and Director of Hospitality Dave Adams. With more than 30 sushi rolls to choose from, the expanded menu has something for everyone. Aside from sushi rolls, newly added menu items include the Whole Fried Snapper with black garlic sauce and cucumber salad and the Crispy Octopus served with cauliflower-fennel puree, Japanese yam, grilled baby fennel. Cannonball even offers an indulgent Omakase Experience that is uniquely curated for the guest and features the chef’s choice of off-the-menu specialties.

The menu refresh pays tribute to Japanese culture and cuisine, but is also rooted in local excellence. Fresh seasonal catches, caught by fishermen at San Diego’s Tuna Harbor Dockside Market, mark the menu, offering a perfect blend of flavors from afar and seafood from our own backyard.

Even the drink menu tips its hat to the East with a splash of Asian spices and flavors. We recommend the Smoke & Mirrors libation—a concoction of mezcal, tequila, orange liqueur, yuzu syrup and togarashi. One sip and you’ll be transported to a beach bar in Okinawa. And if you’re feeling especially ambitious, top off your dinner with a dessert drink like the Hot Matcha Gotcha. This whiskey-forward drink is accented with miso and matcha for a unique flavor profile that any match connoisseur will love.

Ready to dig in? You can experience Cannonball Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call in advance if you’d like to make a larger reservation with a group of friends. You can even contact the hospitality team about blocking off an entire area for your upcoming private event. And when the mood calls for chill music, make sure to plan on a Tuesday or Thursday night out, as local artists fill the space with acoustic sounds at sunset (5-8 p.m.). With a line-up stacked with soul, folk, SoCal rock, R&B, country, pop and more, you’ll have a wide range to choose from.
