Brussels Bistro Brings the Traditional Flavors of Belgium to Laguna Beach

Brussels Bistro invites diners to taste the authentic flavors of Belgium. What gives the dishes at Brussels their authenticity? Their European staff crafts homemade dishes to ensure the true taste of Belgian culture. Chef Thomas Crijns partnered with his childhood friend, Nicolas Servais, to deliver seasonal Belgian recipes. Located under an art gallery, Brussels is truly one of Laguna’s hidden gems. Brussels recently redesigned their restaurant and menu before reopening in 2017. Now the space is decorated with genuine Belgian decor to transport diners across the world to a Belgian restaurant and nightclub.
Known for their friendly staff and delicious cuisine, Brussels has topped the list of the best Belgian restaurants in Orange County. Noteworthy dishes include the Pork Shank with mustard sauce, Beef and Pork Meatballs Liege style and their variety of flavorful mussels, all of which are served with fries. Their traditional Belgian fries are made fresh to order, and are served with one of their 10 homemade dipping sauces.
If you are in the mood for a sweeter entree, try their Belgian waffles. Not long ago, Brussels introduced a new waffle menu. The new menu includes several breakfast and lunch style waffles like the Strawberry Waffle with strawberries and whipped cream or the Veggie Waffle with ratatouille.
Top off the dining experience with one of Brussels’ Belgian beers. According to Brussels, beer is an important part of Belgian culture. In Belgium, many beers can only be drunk from specific glasses, and the shape of the glass often enhances the beer’s flavor.
Their beer menu is extensive, including numerous on tap, bottled Trappist and fruit beers. For those who have not heard of Trappist beer, it is a brew only made by Cistercian monks in a Trappist Abbey. Their fruit beers are made using fruit juices or extracts from fruits such as cherries, raspberries and peach. Despite the fruity flavor, fruit beers lack sweetness because the process of fermentation removes all sugar. All staff members have extensive knowledge of Belgian beer, so do not hesitate to ask for a recommendation. Also, come by for weekly specials like Tuesday’s “All You Can Eat Mussels & Fries,” which includes a Belgian beer or a glass of house wine. Lastly, the answer to the question on everyone’s minds, happy hour is from 4-6 p.m. daily.
