This Locally Loved Tavern in Costa Mesa Is Ready to Let the Good Times Roll

Wild Goose Tavern, located on the adored 17th St in Costa Mesa, has recently expanded, providing a spacious new bar and a larger, cozy space for both locals and visitors. Wild Goose Tavern originally opened in 2012, and they are known for their hand-crafted cocktails and delicious dishes; overall, it’s a beloved place that is “built for good times.”
The original space was around 1,500 square feet, and the new and improved space spreads over a magnificent 5,000 square feet; the renovation began at the start of 2020 and concluded in November.
The new Wild Goose Tavern features “The Saloon,” which is an additional bar space that can’t be missed when passing by. Transport yourself to the Wild West, and you’ll forget you’re in Orange County in this tried-and-true saloon. You may want to even throw on your cowboy boots before hitting this bar!

Outside dining will soon be available in comfortable patio booths with strung lights hanging above. There’s also a game room, larger patio and courtyard––talk about an upgrade! Newport locals may find a little something familiar in the new game room; it’s home to the famous red sign of Bay Arcade (which closed in 2017) from the Balboa Fun Zone. Inside, you’ll also find retro beer signs, repurposed fixtures and a variety of taxidermy. The rustic, cabin vibe is authentically represented at this local gem.
Local fans of the original Wild Goose have no need to fret, as the team has protected some original features and the ambiance of the initial space. The main bar, back booths and front door are in the same exact places, ready to welcome you back to your favorite spot.
Wild Goose Tavern is currently open for takeout and DoorDash delivery (cocktails included!). Order in-person or call ahead for pickup. While Wild Goose is keeping us hydrated and happy with bites and drinks, we can’t wait to experience the upgrade in-person once it’s safe to do so.
