Cool Is an Understatement at Landers
If your go-to color is black and your favorite accessories are a bolo tie and a glass of whiskey, thereās a Costa Mesa brand youāll want to get yourself acquainted with: Landers. āWeāre trying to build a lifestyle brand,ā says Chance Owen, president and CEO of both the Landers Supply House and the restaurant, Landers Liquor Bar. The inspiration behind his two booming business endeavors is Landers, the desert city that is among the final frontier of old western towns. Itās yee-haw meets outlaw and serves as the catalyst for Owenās ultra-curated, SoCal-centric collection of goods. Landers Supply House is a space that sums up Southern Californiaāfrom the surf to the sand to the snow.
The Landers Supply House is a vintage shop thatās a little bit country and a little bit rock ānā roll. From the Harley Davidson on display to the belt buckles and boots, this place is the definition of fringe with benefits. They sell previously loved pieces paired with a collection of gift-worthy gizmos and gadgets. From pins to prickly plants, this place is worth poking around. You can create a one-of-a-kind outfit from their incredible (and seemingly unending) array of inventory that is suitable for a backyard barbecue, a rowdy rodeo or even a posh party. The Supply House receives new products every single day, so there is always something unique and exciting to check out.Ā
āWe want to be an authentic Southern California brand,ā says Owen.
Owen strives to create apparel that is functional and fashionable. Many of the items sold in the shop are small-batch creations, using high-quality materials and classic designs. When asked about the merchandise, he explains that theyāre āactually taking inspiration from vintage and cutting new. The whole idea is that these pieces weāre finding in the vintage world should be replicated.ā
After shopping, head to Landers Liquor Bar, just a few steps down from the action on Harbor Boulevard. Disco balls hang from the ceiling, setting the scene for strong drinks and even stronger vibes.
Itās a compact space with big energyāand an even bigger bar menu. Order the Desert Scramble, an extra-boozy punch that tastes like “if a Mai Tai met Coachella.” When itās time to add some bites to your buzz, their menu of very craveable culinary treats doesnāt disappoint. Their edible options are your favorite comfort-food classics, such as mac and cheese and a fried chicken sandwich, but elevated. The charcuterie board has a cult following of its own. The subtle Italian influences are a nod to the Head Chef Shane Freeland.
Owen has really created something special with his Supply House and Liquor Bar, adding a little bit of cool to Costa Mesa.Ā
Local Insight: The Landers team is excited about sponsoring more events, like the motorcycle ride up to Neptuneās Net in Malibu.
