Live It up or Slow It Down for Your Next Staycation at San Diego’s Luxury Hotel
Coronado is referred to as the “Crown City” for a reason: it’s a gem in Southern California. If you’re looking for a vacation in Crown City fit for royalty (and who isn’t?), Loews Coronado Bay Resort has you covered! Between luxury amenities, fine dining options, airy, nautical-themed rooms with incredible views and premium access to the best beaches and bay, Loews Coronado Bay Resort is our favorite spot for an indulgent getaway under the Southern California sun. Here are 10 reasons why you should start packing your bags for the ultimate staycation.
1 | A Luxury to Afford
The Loews Coronado Bay Resort treats you like the VIP you always knew you were, offering personalized, friendly service on this island oasis. “What sets us apart is definitely the service level,” said Sarah Moran, Area Director of Public Relations at Loews Coronado Bay Resort. “Our team members treat the guests like family and welcome them in a way I have never experienced.”
2 | Suite-In It up
The expansive property hosts 440 guestrooms and 40 suites across six buildings. The rooms reflect the resort’s location with calming, cool colors, sea glass-themed decor and natural light. Notably, all rooms feature a balcony with a water view of either gardens, pools or the bay, so you can soak up the location. If you’re in the mood to splurge, the resort offers a special Presidential King Suite outfitted with the most luxurious amenities including a grand marble entrance, three private furnished balconies, a built-in wet bar, a fireplace, a baby grand piano, a whirlpool bathtub and two LED TVs.
3 | Pining for Fine Dining
Loews Coronado Bay Resort lets you have your choice in wining and dining with four in-house eateries: Crown Landing, La Cantina, Cays Lounge and Silver Strand Exchange. The resort’s signature casual-chic restaurant, Crown Landing, serves up fresh seafood and California-style cuisine for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the recently revamped La Cantina features made-to-order tacos, homemade churros and 50 tequilas for poolside margaritas. If you’re craving lighter fare, Cays Lounge offers small bites, and if you’re on-the-go, Silver Strand Exchange’s market is the place to go.
4 | Dip in the Sips
Toast to your island getaway at one of the resort’s bars! Our favorite: Cays Lounge. Just beyond the hotel’s gorgeous double staircase, Cays Lounge serves up signature cocktails (many of which are crafted with gin or vodka from local favorite You & Yours Distilling Co.), local craft brews and an expansive patio with terrace fire pits and epic San Diego cityscape views. The interior of the bar is also decked out with a TV wall for sports lovers to catch the big game.
5 | Up and Coming
The bayside resort is the perfect venue for any event, whether it be April’s waterfront Easter brunch, May’s Annual Wounded Warrior BBQ and Basketball event or July’s Independence Day festivities. This fall, Loews Coronado Bay Resort will be hosting their signature annual Play on the Bay to support local education, too. Guests can enjoy spectacular food, drinks, live music, specialty brews from Mike Hess Brewing and a silent auction that benefits Loews’ national charity, DonorsChoose.org.
6 | Good Enough to Eat
Loews Coronado Bay Resort is committed to keeping it local so that all guests can get a full taste of San Diego during their stay. The resort features specialty offerings and collaborations from Mike Hess Brewing Co., Andrea’s Truffles, Catalina Offshore Products, Sweet Cheeks Baking Co. and You & Yours Distilling Co. Many of these local partners even utilize fresh produce straight from Loews’ onsite gardens. “We had a picking party in our Nectar Garden in February with You & Yours Distilling Co. for a new batch of Citrus Vodka,” said Moran. “Andrea from Andrea’s Truffles is launching candy bars, and her second bar out of the gate is a milk and dark chocolate marble bar with the zest from our oranges.”
7 | Rule the Pool
Nothing beats soaking up the San Diego sun like playing in a pool with a margarita from La Cantina in hand. Lucky for you, Loews Coronado Bay Resort features three heated pools: one for kids, one for adults and one for the entire family. The pools are surrounded by palm trees, loungers and umbrellas, creating a private oasis. Kids can enjoy outdoor games, organized activities like noodle races and hosted movie nights.
8 | Under the Sea Spa
Loews Coronado Bay Resort’s signature Sea Spa is perfect for guests craving quality R&R. The full spa features island-inspired treatments like tropic sea-stone massages and energizing facials, an outdoor Watsu pool, a courtyard Jacuzzi, food options, a relaxation sanctuary, a hair and nail salon and a specialty boutique. We already feel relaxed!
9 | Kayaks, Duffys, Action!
Loews Coronado Bay Resort helps you stay active on vacation—without sacrificing any vacation views. The resort offers complimentary daily dockside yoga and spin classes, so you can sweat it out by the sea. Water lovers can also rejoice! San Diego’s Action Sports Rentals also has a location at the resort for where guests can rent bikes, kayaks, Duffys, sailboats and stand-up paddleboards to explore Coronado.
10 | By the Bay
It goes without saying, but the resort’s location is on point. Located on a secluded area of Coronado with its own private bayside docks and beach, the resort feels like a private island oasis—with incredible views of the San Diego skyline and Coronado Bridge. The resort offers a complimentary shuttle service to and from Silver Strand State Beach and downtown Coronado, so you can fully explore all that the location has to offer.
