Orange County Businesses Are Paying Tribute to Kobe Bryant and the Other 8 Victims in so Many Amazing Ways

We Hope That These Efforts Will Help Our Community Through––and Always Remember the Tragic Loss of Nine Local Lives

Written By: Erik Hale Kobe Bryant Tribute

There are so many numbers associated with Kobe Bryant—you might think of 8, 24, 60 or even 81. In our minds, Kobe will now be most commonly associated with the number nine. With so much attention being paid to Kobe Bryant (and with his contributions to sport, deservedly so), we hope that reading the names of the eight other people who died in the tragedy on Jan. 26 will be a reminder to the importance of all life. We also mourn the passing of John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Gianna Bryant, Christina Mauser, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester and pilot Ara Zobayan. May you and your families find peace.

On Monday, Feb. 24th (2/24, which is a combination of Kobe Bryant’s jersey number and his daughter Gianna’s number) at 10 a.m. there will be a memorial service just a few miles up the road at the iconic Staples Center; you can also watch it live on NBA TV.

To pay tribute and to contribute, several local businesses have commissioned murals, made donations and held numerous events. These are the ones we have found, and we would love to hear of more in the Orange County community. Please feel free to email [email protected] with any and all suggestions.

He launched the magazine in 2010, wanting to give the community of OC a premiere lifestyle magazine that knew all the native knowledge behind OC. “Six years ago Ashley and I sat at a table scratching the name LOCALE (among some other names) onto a sheet of paper,” says Erik, “coming up with story ideas and basically dreaming. Everything we imagined has happened and we have been blessed with so much more. I am so grateful as we start another year for my family, my two wonderful children, my health, our amazing writers, designers and photographers, our advertising partners and you.”
