Relic Bakery & Kitchen Serves Viral Croissant Fusion Food
A Crunchwrap Supreme wrapped in croissant dough sounds impossible. But at Relic Bakery & Kitchen in San Diego’s East Village, it’s real and it’s one of the most talked-about items at one of the top bakeries in the country.
The Croissant Crunchwrap starts with flaky, buttery croissant dough made with a masa butter block, giving it a subtle corn tortilla flavor before you even get to the filling. Inside, you’ll find seasoned taco beef, melted cheese, crispy layers and all the savory textures that made the original fast food icon famous. It sounds like it shouldn’t work. But it absolutely does.

Relic Bakery earned recognition as Best Bakery San Diego 2025 from San Diego Magazine and has been featured in Eater for its boundary-pushing approach to croissant-based food. The Croissant Crunchwrap is the calling card, but it’s not the whole story.
Relic Bakery & Kitchen opened its East Village storefront at 845 15th St., Suite 101, after years as a beloved pop-up. Founders Derek and Samantha met in 2017 at Herb & Wood, where Derek worked as sous chef and Samantha led the pastry program. They launched Relic during the pandemic and built a following with their unique croissant creations and savory croissant recipes that push boundaries.
The menu goes beyond the viral Crunchwrap croissant. You’ll find braised short rib croissants, a Famous Bowl croissant inspired by KFC, baked charcuterie croissants and rotating seasonal pastries. The bakery also serves breakfast and lunch items, plus a full drinks menu. Everything reflects the same playful, technically skilled approach that made the Croissant Crunchwrap Supreme go viral.
The East Village location is open Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Miramar location operates by preorder only, with Thursday through Saturday pickup.

Relic Bakery takes familiar flavors and reimagines them with serious technique. The flaky Croissant Crunchwrap isn’t a gimmick. It’s what happens when trained pastry chefs stop taking themselves too seriously and start having fun with the food. For the best croissants in San Diego and a menu that makes the city’s food scene worth paying attention to, this is the move.
