Soak in the Sun While You Chow Down on the Fruit of the Sea

When summer—or rather, summer weather—comes around, all we want to do is head down to the beach for a day of surf and sun. Of course, what fun is going to the beach without having something to eat? Bringing your own meal can be fun and creative, but sometimes it’s better to let someone else do the work and make sure you and your friends have a relaxing time, clinking glasses together and enjoying a tasty meal. The only way to make the experience even better is by having the beautiful ocean in your sights while you munch down on a Sunday brunch.
Opened in 2015 and named one of Orange County’s Top 10 New Restaurants of 2016, BLK Earth Sea Spirits in Huntington Beach may just be the perfect place to have that satisfying and relaxing meal with a view. BLK offers a variety of excellent summer items on its menu that will make any brunch fantastic, including crab legs, fresh fruit, and, of course, the bloody mary bar.
The restaurant is large and open thanks to its many windows, which provide the area with lots of natural light and give off a peaceful atmosphere that helps guests feel more at home. However, the thing about BLK that really gives it its summer glow is the view of the ocean gently lapping against the shores. It’s the icing on the top of the cake, and ultimately, creates an experience that is unique, comforting and lovely for friends and family.
Q&A With Executive Chef Jesus Munoz
Q: Out of all the dishes, which is your favorite to prepare?
Jesus Munoz: I love to make all my dishes. Especially the steaks. There is just something about the concept of steaks and seafood.
Q: Which dishes are crowd pleasers?
JM: The sea bass and, again, the steaks. People love steaks. The top quality we use in our steaks is why people enjoy them. And our seafood is top quality as well.
Q Which dish bests captures a beachy/summer feel, and why?
JM: Summer has to be seafood dishes. It’s what people are looking for when it’s summertime and it’s hot; they want something refreshing.
Q: Describe the perfect brunch.
JM: It all depends on the location; we are near the ocean, so it has to be seafood. We also have a bar station that is just for the bloody marys. There are all kinds of items like bacon, olives, cheeses; a lot of stuff that goes with the bloody marys.
Q: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
JM: I love food. I love what I do. I love to produce new dishes and I love when I see the faces of the people enjoying what I’ve made for them; that is the inspiration for me.
Q: When you’re not in the kitchen, whose cooking do you enjoy the most?
JM: I have to cook my own food to enjoy my dishes, but really, I have really good cooks. They have a passion for what they do.
Q: Are there any new additions coming to the menu that customers can look forward to?
JM: I am working on a couple of them. It will be secret, so we will see what the people think when we present it to them.
