The parallels of San Diego and Australian coastal culture come to life at Westerly Public House, where it’s always golden hour under the warm glow of the bar. Guests can enjoy crafted cocktails, local brews and hard-to-find wines at the surfboard-inspired bar table, or perhaps take their sips outside to the chic and spacious patio. “We want our hotel guests and the local community to feel comfortable and think of this place as a safe haven,” says General Manager Lauren Goodman. “As people are getting more comfortable being out again, they’ve been craving that human interaction, and I think this is a safe, fun place to find that.”
Westerly Public House features a 4,000 square-foot courtyard where clean-cut chic intersects with vibrant charm, from the art deco-style tiling to the pop-of-color mural by Betty Larkin Design Studio and other works by local San Diego artists. With an abundance of lounge seating and tables, this indoor-outdoor space invites guests to reconnect with each other, perfect for making new memories and friends.
The unique Cali-Aussie cuisine gives this spot its edge and introduces an ever-evolving menu. Utilizing fresh, locally sourced ingredients, Executive Chef Jesse Paul presents mainstays like Piri Piri Chicken, Fish Tacos and the “Bloomin’ Mushroom,” Westerly’s take on a popular chain restaurant appetizer. Another delectable dish includes Chef Paul’s specialty Pot de Crème for dessert. A passion for sustainability and zero-waste cooking allows his creativity to shine in every dish, often giving way to off-menu items and exclusive specials.
From trivia nights to yoga Saturdays and more, Westerly Public House is the ideal setting for a variety of events, activities and special occasions. Spend summer afternoons catching up with friends over shareable starters and prosecco popsicles beneath the courtyard’s lush plant wall. Or, cozy up to your date near to the stylish fireplace under the glow of the string lights, indulging in a signature cocktail, such as the Westerly Revolver made with Starward Australian Whisky. And while there are several nods to Australian culture throughout the restaurant, Westerly Public House’s primary focus is its own community.
Taking “locally sourced” to heart, the restaurant does whatever it can, from hosting art shows for local artists, to partnerships with San Diego businesses such as Sadie Rose Baking Co. and Dark Horse Coffee Roasters.
“We really want people to enjoy the moment and make connections, whether it’s a guest meeting a local, or vice versa, it’s about sharing each other’s life stories and becoming friends for a minute,” Goodman says. Monsaraz San Diego Hotel
