September is Summer for Locals! Plan Your South Bay Staycay ASAP

Escape to South Bay for a Weekend of California-Cool Vibes and Luxury Digs

The Shade Hotels on the California coast showcase what we love about the Golden State—an ocean breeze, coastal cuisine and pure relaxation—through their sleek and luxurious locations. Plan your dream beach wedding, a celebratory dinner or much-needed weekend away in Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach. With Shade Hour, live music, complimentary beach cruisers, rooftop pools and sparkling ocean views, you’re sure to find more than one relaxing reason to stay at one of these South Bay hotels. Where to Stay in South Bay

1 | Seafood at Sea Level

Sea Level’s newest chef, Alex Iniguez, brings great passion and flavor-forward details to every meal. Sea Level is a California coastal cuisine restaurant that sits right on the water’s edge. Iniguez gained a love for cooking by watching his mom bring her own restaurant to life. Seafood dishes are his favorite to create both at home and at Sea Level—especially the Pan Roasted Sea Bass and Risotto which is a crowd favorite on the menu. Iniquez feels as though he’s creating art when cooking and always keeps in mind “any requests for the guests” as he prepares beautiful dishes daily at this Redondo Beach hotspot.

2 | Rooftop Pool

Although the beach is just a few steps away, Shade Hotels have ensured guests can cool off in the rejuvenating rooftop pools! The Manhattan Beach location features twinkling lights for an ideal evening splash and comfy poolside couches for relaxation. The Redondo Beach location’s aquadeck and relaxation pool are equipped with cabanas to rent, reclining chairs and boast sweeping coastal views from Malibu to Palos Verdes. Rent a shady cabana and enjoy perks like an ice-cold bucket of beers, bottle service, wine or bottled water.

3 | Shade Hour + Live Music

Looking for a bite to eat? Shade offers their twist on happy hour—Shade Hour—which is available Monday through Thursday from 4-6 p.m. Both of the hotel restaurants, zinc@Shade and Sea Level, offer plenty of tasty appetizers and drinks during Shade Hour, such as spicy tuna and crispy rice, truffle fries and a margherita pizza. Live musicians also perform on-site and play Wednesday and Friday nights at Shade Redondo Beach, which is the perfect way to cap off your night.

4 | Beach Cruisers

Although there are plenty of things to do on-property, switch things up by venturing out on a beach cruiser! Bikes are available at both hotels. The bright-colored cruisers are worth every penny since each hotel is only minutes away from the sand! Cruise around the beach and visit local shops and restaurants for the ultimate “September in SoCal” experience.

5 | Location Is Everything

Both resorts feature a beautiful view of the ocean and provide a vast amount of activities for a full day of fun. With an 8-minute walk to the Hermosa Beach Pier, Shade Redondo Beach is a gorgeous yet conveniently located staycation destination. The pier provides a fabulous, breezy walk where you’ll eventually come across the Roundhouse Aquarium! Shade Manhattan Beach resides in the heart of the laid-back South Bay community with plenty of delicious restaurants nearby, like Rock’N Fish, a bustling seafood and steaks hotspot, and The Strand House, a farm-fresh fine dining destination with sweeping ocean views—only a 6-minute walk to the pier!
