Summer’s around the corner and we know you’re looking for a good music festival to attend. One in particular, is the Exposition Park, which has been the home for FYF Fest since 2004. FYF Fest (F*ck Yeah Fest), from August 27-28, is an annual two-day music festival that features a variety of music genres—rock, hip-hop, electronic, indie, and even live art sculptures. Here’s who we’re most excited to see this year!
Hip-hop artist and Grammy-winner for “Best Rap Album of the Year, ” Kendrick Lamar will headline the stage at FYF on Saturday, the 27th. His album release, good kid, m.A.A.d city, was announced one of “The 100 Best Debut Albums of All Time” by Rolling Stone. Poetic and honest, this rapper never disappoints us with his lyrical thoughts. Kendrick is an artist aspiring to give out a message to his audience, and that’s definitely something we all want to witness in an artist.
Her music genre varies from an eclectic mix of pop to electronic. Her 2014 track “Go” was released and ranked #14 on Rolling Stone’s Best Songs of 2014 list and she previously opened for Lana Del Rey and Florence and the Machine. Aside from her music, Grimes is a talented artist who gets her inspiration from Japanese anime and comics and creates her own album art.
Wolf Parade hails from British Columbia. Having released four albums already, this band gives the rock genre a whole new feel. Their music include electronics, keyboards, guitar, drums, and unified vocalists Dan Boeckner and Spencer Krug.
With two albums released (Oshin & Is the Is Are), rock band DIIV built their music around intuitive verses with melodic dream-pop music. The band will be at the first day of FYF and we are definitely excited to see them perform. They experiment with their music to carry out each song’s meaning, and that’s what draws out the most emotions from fans. Music that can connect with the audience is the best type of music!
After performing at Coachella Festival this year, electronic rock band, LCD Soundsystem will be headlining the second day at FYF Fest. Their single “Daft Punk Is Playing at My House” became the band’s most successful single, also received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. This musician’s iconic music will capture your attention for sure!
Rapper Young Thug has appeared on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts and has collaborated with many other artists such as Kanye West, T.I., and Rich Homie Quan. We’re excited to see him bring his charisma and his unhinged personality at the festival. He’s an artist who is not afraid to be himself and captures the audience with his intriguing persona.
British singer-songwriter, composer, and producer Blood Orange will take one of the stages during FYF Day 2.
