22 Must-Dos in Anaheim That Aren’t Disneyland

From Speakeasy Cocktail Dens and Michelin-Recognized Kitchens to Craft Breweries and Wide-Open Nature Trails, Anaheim Has a Lot More Going On Than You Might Expect

Disneyland may have put Anaheim on the map, but anyone who’s spent real time in the city knows it has a life of its own well beyond the theme park gates. From underground speakeasies and rooftop bars to wood-fire taqueria gems and barrel-aged brews, Anaheim rewards the curious. Whether you’re a local looking for a fresh night out or a visitor who wants to see the city through a different lens, here’s your definitive guide to eating, drinking and exploring Anaheim, no park ticket required.

DINE + DRINK

Shipwreck Sips

Capturing everything you love about a Tiki bar and stripping out every bit of kitsch, Strong Water Anaheim stuns with wood-paneled walls lined with vintage artifacts, cascading vines overhead and the warm glow of torches create a moody, intimate atmosphere that feels like stumbling onto a sunken shipwreck in the best possible way. The rum-forward cocktail program is the real draw here, with a menu filled with boozy pineapple whipped coladas and elaborately crafted elixirs that are truly worth every sip. Follow the torches down Clementine Street and let yourself disappear for the evening.

Spot the giant green X off La Palma, and you’ve found Anaheim’s favorite independent craft brewery. Brewery X sits along the La Palma Beer Trail and brings together award-winning craft beer, food trucks serving burgers and New York-style pizzas, plus one of the best outdoor beer gardens in Orange County. This summer, catch all the biggest soccer matches on jumbo outdoor screens or join the weekly Love Island watch parties on Tuesday nights, complete with giveaways. Purple Hour on Tuesdays means $5 pints of Huckleberry Hard Seltzer while family movie nights in the Biergarten make it a true all-ages gathering spot. Dogs are welcome, and good vibes guaranteed. Brewery X also has outposts at both Honda Center and Angel Stadium.

Bistro Bites

Local bistro Poppy & Seed defies the typical farm-to-table formula. Outdoor seating winds through a working organic garden, giving the space a lush, greenhouse warmth that feels genuinely transportive, as if a hidden garden is tucked inside a buzzing city. The kitchen has earned recognition from the Michelin Guide, and the menu earns every bit of it. Order the sustainably sourced steak tartare, the apple butter ham toast and a side of duck fat fingerling potatoes. Pair it with something from their creative drinks list and take your time, as this is a place meant for lingering.

Up Above the Clouds

Perched above the Grand Legacy at the Park hotel, The Fifth is Anaheim’s most atmospheric rooftop destination. Sweeping nighttime city views, front-row seats to the Disneyland fireworks display and spirit-forward cocktails make every visit feel like an occasion. In addition, Tiki Tuesdays, Whiskey Wednesdays and Taco Bout Thursdays keep the weeknight energy high. Start with the Attitude Adjustment, a fruity tequila concoction, and pair it with the Nashville hot chicken sandwich for an evening that’s both easy and eventful.

Behind the Barrels

The Anaheim Packing House is itself a destination: one of Orange County’s last remaining historic citrus packing warehouses, now a beautifully preserved market hall with over 30 food and beverage vendors and a 2025 title for OC’s Best Food Hall. But the real secret lies below. On the lower level, tucked behind a wall of sake barrels, is The Blind Rabbit, a Prohibition-era speakeasy that requires reservations and rewards the effort. Every detail, from the moody lighting and intimate atmosphere to the vintage bar program, is a full-commitment trip back to the 1920s underground. Sessions are capped at 90 minutes, so arrive with intention, slip down the rabbit hole and try an umami martini, pineapple Old Fashioned or tamarind margarita.

Heapings of Hungarian Treats

Think of a chimney cake as the ultimate pastry trifecta: the crispy crunch of a churro, the pillowy softness of a donut and the buttery layers of a croissant, all baked to order and filled with high-quality soft serve. Known as Kürtöskalács in Hungary, this centuries-old street food found one of its earliest American homes right here in Anaheim, brought to life by a Hungarian co-owner and a Michelin restaurant-trained chef. The result is something truly special. House of Chimney Cakes offers custom creations with names like So Hungary Delicious, The Mouse and Matcha Monster, topped with chocolate chip cheesecake bites, Pocky sticks, caramel popcorn and more. An eight-year family operation, the shop is just minutes from Disneyland and miles ahead of anything else on the local dessert scene.

Too Cool Scoops

Bold claim alert: Joe’s Italian Ice calls itself the best Italian ice on the planet, and they invite you to prove them wrong. The secret is in the sourcing, using only the freshest, highest-quality seasonal fruits, refined through obsessive recipe development in their own kitchen. Flavors change daily, but the signature order is the Joe Latti, a layered creation of Italian ice and premium soft serve sourced from a distinguished Pennsylvania dairy farm. A simple concept, but with extraordinary execution. This is the kind of dessert that makes you rethink what a frozen treat can be.

Perfecting the Craft

Merging top-quality halal Texas barbecue with a Mexican twist, Craft by Smoke and Fire is one of Anaheim’s most exciting restaurants. The short rib birria quesadilla, grilled jalapeño burger and the Mountain High loaded fries topped with brisket represent the kitchen at its boldest, but family platters with smoked meats are just as enticing. Happy hour runs during the week from 2 to 6 p.m., with an extra late-night happy hour every day of the week with buy-one-get-one deals on select drinks. The bar has all the games on, and the location puts you minutes from Disneyland, the Anaheim Convention Center and the Packing District, making it an easy anchor for any evening in downtown Anaheim.

In Villainous Pursuit

Two venues, one address and zero reasons to leave hungry. Villains Brewing Co. runs a fast-food hall for quick bites alongside a full-service restaurant next door, and both are worth your time. The hand-battered tenders, double-fried wings and Western-style smash burgers hold their own against any competition in OC. Wash it all down with a house brew, like the Night Prowler, and add a slice of sourdough Detroit-style pizza for good measure. This is a modern American brewpub doing everything right.

Tijuana-Style Tacos

What started in 2019 in a front yard in Anaheim, with nothing but dreams, passion and a commitment to the perfect taco, has grown into one of the most beloved taco spots in Southern California. Tacos Los Cholos specializes in tacos al carbon: high-quality Black Angus prime meats, sizzled over wood fire and tenderized in butter and lime before being tucked into homemade tortillas. The beef rib-eye taco is another splurge worth making. A 2023 Taco Madness championship win says the rest. Don’t let the no-frills setup fool you, as the food is the whole point.

A Craveable Feast

Okayama Kobo is a quiet gem in downtown Anaheim that earns a detour on the strength of its bread alone. Every loaf, roll and pastry is crafted in-house daily using flour sourced from Hokkaido, Japan, a detail that makes itself known in the texture and flavor of everything they bake. Expect salt and butter rolls, sweet buns, savory paninis, croissants and cinnamon rolls, all served within a warm, string-lit setting with quality cafe drinks to match. This bakery is the kind of place that makes a slow morning feel like a minor luxury.

Country Style

Must-Dos in Anaheim
Credit: THE RANCH Restaurant & Saloon

The Ranch is two experiences in one address. The restaurant has earned a California Michelin Guide distinction with a seasonally driven, farm-to-table menu that sources in part from its own private 2.2-acre farm, Edwards Ranch Estates, in the foothills near Orange. The steak-forward menu is the centerpiece: portions run from 40 to 58 ounces, complemented by comforting sides like creamed corn or lobster macaroni and cheese. Don’t leave without trying the Milky Way, crafted with chocolate, malted nougat and salted caramel ice cream. After dinner, step next door to The Ranch Saloon for live country music, line dancing and an intimate atmosphere that turns any night into an event.

Chasing Churros

Credit: @donchurrosgomez

A family recipe dating to 1969, crafted with all-natural vegan ingredients and shaped over three days of dough preparation, Don Churros Gomez takes the humble churro seriously. Stop by the brand’s food truck at the Anaheim Marketplace to try crowd favorites like the El Don Churro, filled with Mexican caramel then rolled in cinnamon and sugar, and the Churros con Nieve with ice cream melting over the warm dough. The line of locals wrapping around the truck isn’t accidental; this is the real thing.

Spooky Spirits

Tucked into downtown Anaheim’s emerging arts district, Broken Spirits is a craft cocktail bar that brings serious bartending to an area on the rise. Housed in the same historic building that once held The Craftsman 1904, the space leans into a gothic, haunted-mansion aesthetic that’s become a signature of the brand. The menu leans creative and spirit-forward, with a neighborhood feel that suits long conversations and slow sips. It fits naturally into an evening that starts with elevated bar bites right by the Packing District and winds up somewhere memorable.

Bottled Up

Having earned a national reputation for its barrel-aged stout program, a rarity for a Southern California brewery, and a point of genuine pride for Anaheim’s craft beer community, Bottle Logic Brewing is always worth a visit. Limited releases draw enthusiasts from across the region, and the taproom experience is worth seeking out even on an ordinary day. If Brewery X is the community gathering spot, Bottle Logic is the destination for the serious beer enthusiast. Between the two, Anaheim makes a compelling case for its place on the California beer trail.

Real military flight simulators, full flight suits, a class briefing before takeoff: Flightdeck is the most genuinely immersive aviation experience available to civilians in Orange County. Take off at 600 knots, engage in air-to-air combat dogfights and earn your unofficial wings, or take the controls of a Boeing 737 in the commercial airliner simulator for an entirely different kind of thrill. For those who prefer wheels to wings, the Rogue Racing simulators put you behind the wheel of the world’s fastest race cars on the most challenging circuits. A 58-acre natural park, free and open to the public seven days a week from sunrise to sunset, Oak Canyon Nature Center is Anaheim’s best-kept secret for adults who want to decompress without driving an hour east. Scenic hiking trails wind through native habitat, with wildlife sightings a genuine possibility. This summer, the Nature Nights weekly evening series adds guided twilight hikes as well as expert presentations on reptiles, birds of prey, desert ecosystems and local conservation to the calendar. Camelot Golfland is a full-scale entertainment complex that does a lot more than mini golf, though its challenging courses are legitimately fun and built around a dramatic castle centerpiece. The property includes laser tag, go-karts, bumper cars, bumper boats and an expansive arcade that skews toward anyone who grew up feeding quarters into machines. For value-seekers, visit on Half Off Tuesdays when a Fun Pass is 50% off, golf for $10 on Wednesdays or enjoy BOGO Thursdays, when two rounds can be purchased for the price of one with a mobile app coupon. These make it an easy midweek decision; it holds up as well on a Friday night with friends as it does on a weekday afternoon.

Cheer On the Ducks

The Anaheim Ducks have been a point of civic pride since their Stanley Cup Championship in 2007, and a game at Honda Center remains one of the best live sports experiences in Southern California. After missing the playoffs in 2025, the Ducks returned to postseason form in 2026, knocking out the Edmonton Oilers in the first round before falling to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Conference Semifinals, a reminder that the energy in the building can swing from electric to unforgettable depending on the night. The crowd noise and the between-period entertainment all add up to a night that’s distinctly Anaheim. Check the schedule and go when the opponent is good. You won’t regret ending your night in town at the rink.
