Cocktails, Casinos and Cabins Ahead

Written By: Kaylin Waizinger What to Do Palm Springs

After another scorching summer in Greater Palm Springs, locals are especially ready for some cooler temps. But any desert dweller knows that the hot sun doesn’t ease up until the end of each year, so with temps still hovering in the 90s and 100s, we’ve put together a list of seven ways to beat the heat this fall. From frozen cocktails by the pool to a glamping excursion up north, these activities will cool you down and help you forget those sweltering triple-digit temps.

1 | Head North to Idyllwild What to Do Palm Springs

Take a road trip north to the serene small town of Idyllwild, located in the heart of the San Jacinto Mountains. In just about an hour’s drive, you can enjoy cooler temps and some seriously chic glamping. Book a few nights at the Idyllcove Vacation Cabin––an adorable A-frame cabin surrounded by towering trees and complete with a hot tub, spacious yard and central AC unit. During the day, visit the Idyllwild Gardens Nursery and take a stroll through the nursery’s vintage 1969 travel van gift shop!

2 | Go for a Swim What to Do Palm Springs

There’s no better way to cool off than by taking a dip in one of La Quinta Resort & Club’s 41 pools! This gorgeous desert retreat, set against the Santa Rosa Mountains, is the perfect spot for a weekend of relaxation and renewal. Enjoy snacks with the kids at the main pool or rent a private cabana and sip cocktails poolside at the Plunge 21+ adult pool. If you don’t feel like venturing far in the heat, there are a number of secluded casita pools located throughout the property. If you want to go the full nine yards, reserve an exclusive suite with a private patio, private pool and Jacuzzi!

3 | Sip on a Frozen Cocktail

Open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Oasis Pool Bar at Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa is the ideal place for a refreshing beverage. This casual-cool bar whips up ice-cold cocktails and signature frozen drinks under a canopy of shady palms. Nothing beats the heat like a poolside piña colada or margarita!

Native Knowledge: Did you know that Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa has its own tequila? Tastings are available at Agave Sunset Bar.

Head to The Shops on El Paseo, an upscale destination with luxury designer boutiques, such as Ralph Lauren, Oliver Peoples, St. John and more. And if you’re looking to get a head start on your holiday shopping, Leeds & Son Fine Jewelers is just a few blocks away and offers a stunning selection of fine jewelry, luxury watches and engagement rings.

6 | Play Your Cards Right What to Do Palm Springs

The best part about a casino? Some may say it’s the games, but in the sweltering heat, it is definitely the air conditioning. Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage is a player’s paradise; they have everything from slots and video poker to table games like Hotwater Craps and blackjack. And when the dice fall just right, take your winnings to The Steakhouse Rancho Mirage for a climate-controlled gourmet dinner. Our recommendation? Start with the caviar and finish with the slow-roasted “Prime” prime rib.
