Best Pools in Greater Palm Springs

Written By: Lindsay Delong pools in greater palm springs

When you think of Greater Palm Springs, you instinctively think of pools. It’s basically a PSP law that you can’t do the desert proper without one. They go together like a salt-rimmed glass and a grapefruit margarita, like freckles and sunshine, like bikinis and Kate Upton. They are meant for each other, and you, you hot sweaty little thing, condone it 110 percent.

Immediately upon your arrival into the desert, no matter the season, your first mission is to find the nearest watering hole, dunk yourself, hold your breath and blow a couple bubbles, then reemerge with a new mission: fruity cocktails. This is Palm Springs living in a nutshell, and as the summer months arrive and the sizzling temps surpass into triple digit status, pool-time becomes even more vital.

So put on your suit, slather some sunscreen over that svelte bod, and grab the inflatable swan T-Swift style. We got you. You’re about to cool off (or mellow out) at the best pools in Palm Springs. Quick, or your gonna overheat!

Miramonte Resort & Spa

If you’re looking to wind down and relax, one of the three pools at Miramonte Resort & Spa is the ultimate Indian Wells go-to. Find an escape from the intense desert sun in one of the poolside cabanas with personal misters and fresh fruit bowls, or if you’d like to mingle (and escape the kids for a minute), head over to the Piedmont Pool—adults only. For the classic laying-by-the-pool experience, the Miramonte pool is a great choice, especially because it’s surrounded by soothing sounds of running water. And the most secluded of them all is the saltwater Aqua Well pool, which is included in any spa treatment package. Care for a night swim? Go for it! All of the location’s pools are open until 11 p.m.

Being able to sit out on the lawn and watch outdoor movies are one of the relaxing perks of summer. But in Palm Springs, pretty much every day is summer. And Arrive Hotels extends this summer perk year round! On every third Thursday of the month, you can head out to the pool and watch classic movies while you swim or lounge poolside. This is the cherry on top of a night swim for sure!

Ace Hotel & Swim Club

Originally an old motel connected to a Denny’s, the Ace Hotel & Swim Club arrived in Palm Springs with a snappy modern flare and whipped the mid-century building into shape, quickly making it one of the trendiest spots to stay (and soak) in town. It houses two large pools, the Swim Club Pool (also often called the “Deep Pool”) where popular DJs are found most weekends spinning tracks and leading drunken crowds in Dubstep-induced bad decisions, and the Commune Pool, which holds a more wholesome and kid-friendly vibe (although if you’re really looking for “wholesome” and “kid-friendly” you should probably look elsewhere—like far away from the Ace elsewhere). The latter is surrounded by fire pits and an event space where people are constantly celebrating something, whether that be a wedding, film debut, family reunion or basically life in general. Not staying at the hotel? No problemo! It’s $30 for a day pass, which also includes the steam room, sauna and gym.

Sparrows Lodge

The location of Sparrows Lodge is one of old Palm Springs glamour. Originally built in the 1950’s as Castle’s Red Barn by MGM actor Don Castle, it long served as a playground for many of Hollywood’s elite. Fully restored in 2013, it still encompasses the charm of decades passed. A repurposed barn with modern rustic architecture, it is a mellow and quaint place to unwind. So quaint in fact, that the Lodge’s 20 rooms all lack televisions or phones, prompting its guests outside to spend their days lounging away in a chaise lounge by the pool, soaking in the spa, or roasting a marshmallow around the fire pit. Guests are also encouraged to use the hotel’s complimentary bikes to further explore the city. Sparrow’s is exclusively 21+, so gone are the days of screaming kids and murky water. The saltwater pool will leave you feeling as clean and refreshed as a morning’s shower. The staff is attentive and thoughtful gifting guests with sangrias at check-in and popsicles at pool-thirty. Which, Hollywood elite or not, will have you feeling pretty A-list.

If you’re going to Palm Springs to get that perfect Insta shot, go no further than The Saguaro. The vivid indigenous flowers of the desert inspire its bright architecture, and the hues are indeed, so intense, they’ll threaten to break your iPhone lens … or, at least play tricks on your pupils as you’re admiring your favorite photo just a tad too long afterward (#nofilterneeded). Home to many notorious pool parties such as the popular summer event, Splash House, the water is often saturated in equally fun and vibrant pool toys. After a long day of swimming, dine at El Jefe, the hotel’s top rated restaurant lead by “Iron Chef”, Jose Garces. Serving small plates inspired by the comida in Mexico City, it’s a darker place with low lighting, perfect for ending an extremely sunny (and colorful) day. Your sunburn will thank you.

The Parker Palm Springs

Home to not just a classic hotel, but also the Palm Springs Yacht Club (PSYC) and two renowned in-house restaurants (Mister Parker’s and Norma’s), The Parker has a lot to offer its guests. The boutique hotel is peppered with personal touches to make your stay that much better. Hammocks, croquet, and a giant chess set litter the landscape while luxury bath amenities like Hermès soap and Bvlgari lotion class up the rooms’ bathrooms. The resort features two outdoor pools — the Silicone Valley pool for families and the Gene Autry pool for adults only (open 24 hours a day). The beloved Lemonade Stand helps keep pool patrons hydrated with unlimited refills for the youngsters and a selection of unique “stiff” cocktails for the drinkers. Need even more privacy? The PSYC features an indoor body-temperature pool and two Jacuzzi’s for those really looking for some pampering … or for those who simply need to take a minute of solace in dear, sweet, air conditioning.

Skylark Hotel

With 24/7 pool hours, you can rest assured the Skylark Hotel is a place that screams fiesta. It was built in 1955 and has hosted a smorgasbord of legendary celebs like Ms. Palm Springs herself, Marilyn Monroe. Its mid-century modern era charm makes it a popular place for photo shoots and both film and television productions. Their slogan states “We’re not gay friendly, or straight friendly, we’re just friendly!” and friendly they are. Some of their pool parties have gone down in Palm Springs pool party history which is a history book so wet Hugh Hefner would blush. The large rectangular pool sits in the center of the property surrounded by motel-style rooms and offers exceptional views of the mountains in the distance. Lounge on a brightly colored lounge chair or take a dip in the hot tub shaped like a flower. Why a flower you ask? Why not? It’s eclectic, it’s outlandish, and it absolutely defines Palm Springs.

Korakia Pensione

Add a splash of style to your weekend. 📷: @jzobphoto

Named one of the “Sexiest Hotels in America” by Forbes Traveler, Korakia Pensione lives up to its name so much so that Vogue and Condé Nast Traveler have created elaborate scenes for photo shoots here. The romantic retreat sits on 1.5 acres housing bungalows, guesthouses, and villas with names like Santorini Room and Casablanca Studio. Moroccan fountains and waterfalls meddle with gardens of olive trees and bougainvillea. Boasting two saltwater pools including a heated zero-edge Mediterranean pool, it’s a tranquil place to spend your day cozying up on one of the five daybeds spread throughout the property with a classic book (compliments of the hotel’s very own library lounge of course). Fire pits and lanterns scatter throughout the pool areas, and outdoor vintage movies are shown nightly. Alcohol is not allowed, but there’s plenty to keep you busy including a Moroccan tea service offered each afternoon in the courtyard, complimentary bikes, and a Bocce ball court. Welcome to your weekend of absolute leisure.
