Volo Sports members love to spend time off the court just as much as they do on the court, hosting fun social mixers, like happy hours and tasting Tuesdays. This vibrant sporting community is perfect for the fresh-out-of-college graduate or remote workers looking for an extra nudge to get out, get moving and get connected! Here are seven sports leagues to join this spring in San Diego!

For the On-Trend Athlete: Pickleball at Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma

Not only is pickleball the latest trend on everyone’s feed, but it’s also a great way to get in some daily movement with friends! Players meet seven days a week for pickup games and leagues at the Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma—boasting a set of premier, newly renovated courts! Open to all skill levels, members can choose between recreational and competitive divisions when signing up for traditional 2v2 games. It’s a perfect thing to do for couples! Instagram may not have caught on to the concept of Party Pickleball yet, but Volo certainly has! This casual, social-focused approach is great for members hoping to improve their skills and engage with other players on the court.

For the Beach-Loving Athlete: Beach Volleyball at Ocean Beach, Crown Point, Bonita Cove, De Anza Cove

Try and convince us there’s a better way to squeeze in a workout that doesn’t involve sun, sand and waves! Volo’s beach volleyball leagues take advantage of San Diego’s captivating coastline in a setting where players can nourish their bodies through movement. Competition levels in the leagues range from super social to competitive, depending on how comfortable players feel behind the net. Membership pricing for leagues starts at $40, with free pickup games for athletes wanting to squeeze in a last-minute sweat sesh. The format includes coed and women’s leagues, consisting of 4v4 and 6v6 matches. Games are in play during weekdays and weekends, offering a flexible schedule that can satisfy everyone’s preferences—even the busy bee!

For the Cardio-Loving Athlete: Soccer at Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach

Nothing will get those endorphins pumping quite like a pickup game of soccer. Volo San Diego’s spring soccer leagues just acquired a new location to hold their matches: Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach. For those on a tight schedule, check out their quickie four-week sessions that include four games and two guaranteed playoff sessions. Looking for a more committed option? Their regular seven-week session is great for those hoping to join an extended league. Teams face off in a series of playoff games until one team takes the crown! Membership rates to join a league range from $45 to $85, with free drop-ins and pickup games for only $10. Soccer matches are happening Tuesday through Sunday, with a mix of coed and men’s teams.

For the Competitive Athlete: Flag Football at Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach

With Volo Sports, Sundays are reserved for flag football. There’s no better way to put your strength and endurance to the test than with some (friendly) competition out on the field. Fostering sportsmanship and confidence, Volo offers both coed and men’s flag football leagues that range from 5v5 to 8v8. The five- to eight-week-long sessions aren’t just a great opportunity to test the waters of a new sport, but they’re also just the right length to dive head-first into a new community of football enthusiasts. Alternatively, teams are always looking for drop-ins, so if you’re looking for something to do in San Diego, this could be the ticket! Membership rates for joining a flag football league run anywhere from $40 to $70. The teams meet Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at Earl Warren Middle School in Solana Beach.

For the Social Athlete: Cornhole at Maverick’s

Before you ask, yes, cornhole is a legit sport! At least, according to the American Cornhole League, it is. Volo players meet on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at Maverick’s Beach Club in Pacific Beach to convene over a game of cornhole in a beachy and coastal setting. Just steps away from the ocean, this coastal venue offers an expansive menu of bar bites to keep you energized and fueled in the heat of the game, including crab cakes, tacos and crispy chicken sandos. Each cornhole match requires a minimum of two players and no more than six. Membership rates are lower for those interested in joining a cornhole league, running you only $25 to join a league.

For the Super Social Athlete: Kickball + Flip Cup in North Park

Volo’s kickball leagues are the real deal—yet there still seems to be a sentimental piece to the sport that brings back nostalgic memories of the epic kickball games you had during recess. Volo has established multiple kickball sites around the North Park community, including Morley Field, Jefferson Elementary, McKinley Elementary, North Park Rec and Pretzels & Pints. Traditional kickball games consist of six innings (50 minutes in total) with 7-11 players. Hoping to take it up a notch? Stick around for Volo’s Kickball + Flip Cup duo—the social version of traditional kickball. Matches are followed by a flip cup tournament at a local sponsor bar (players do not have to play with alcohol), where the teams face off in a best-of-seven match.

For the Non-Athlete: Volo Day at Petco Park

Health is all about balance, right? And a day off at the ballpark certainly never hurts (along with a few irresistible bites to treat yourself!). Mark your calendars for Volo Day at Petco Park on March 29, when the San Diego Padres host the San Francisco Giants. Tickets are $125 and come with access to the Toyota Beach Terrace, offering undisrupted views of the field. Break out the peanuts and Cracker Jack because tickets also include unlimited food and drinks, starting 90 minutes before the first pitch. Menu items include Three Cheese Mac N Cheese, Friar Frank Tarantino Hot Dogs and Apple Streusel Bars. Volo Day is the perfect social outing in San Diego to kick off spring while sharing the company of new friends.
