Dana Point is home to lots of eateries that have unique menu items, but there is one that stands out among the others for its distinct flavors, delicious drinks and delightful seasonal offerings. Since opening its doors in March of 2016, Craft House has been an OC favorite. With Chef-Owner Blake Mellgren as the man behind the stove and the launch of a new fall menu, you have more reasons than ever to stop by for a bite.

1 | Outdoor Oasis Dana Point Restaurants

Craft House has recently been able to expand their outdoor space over the summer to accommodate guests within CDC guidelines and allow customers to get a taste of their seasonal menu items. The patio is perfect for fall temps and gives you the chance to enjoy the cooler weather outside. Complete with string lights and tall plants, you will be able to relax and enjoy dinner and drinks al-fresco style.

Head Chef Mellgren humbly says, “The patio is half of the parking lot and it’s so popular that we’re thinking about making it a permanent feature. We are very blessed.” When asked about the atmosphere, he adds, “I want people to have well-crafted choices in a comfortable environment.” Enjoy a plate of pan-roasted sea scallops, the classic “Knife + Fork” Spicy Fried Chicken Sandwich or choose a seasonal special.

2 | Fall Offerings Dana Point Restaurants

The fall brings with it thoughts of pumpkins and savory flavors, but these are just the beginning for Craft House’s new fall menu items. Stop in for a taste of their seasonal soups or order the rabbit pot pie, which is made with rabbit, parsnip, wild mushrooms, carrots, leeks and fennel, all served inside a flaky pastry crust. “Rabbit is my favorite protein, and it is made into a familiar, classic dish that customers will enjoy,” Chef Mellgren mentions.

If you want something sweet to satisfy your cravings after a meal, then come in for fall desserts like the new gluten-free pumpkin chocolate chip bread pudding, which comes with espresso-flavored gelato and chocolate-covered espresso beans on top! This sold out quickly when it was first added to the menu, so make a reservation soon to get a taste.

3 | Spirits to Sip

Though Craft House has well over 100 fine whiskeys for making an old fashioned or Manhattan, they have rolled out several new fall cocktails to get you into the autumn spirit! The new cocktails blend spiced spirits, specialty liquors and brand new flavors. “We have nine seasonal cocktails,” explains Mellgren. “My favorite is the Sizzling Julep. It has cayenne and peach for a great fall drink, even though the weather is still hot.”

If you want something a bit different, you can opt for the Crimson and Clover cocktail that has both red hibiscus and clove. Finally, if you’re looking for the perfect drink and dish pairing, Mellgren explains, “The pork chop and the Sizzling Julep compliment each other well.”
