Interviewing an accomplished actress like Martha Higareda was anything but just an interview. It was as if we had known each other for years and were catching up on each other’s lives. Martha was as interested to learn about me as I was to learn about her, asking where I lived and grew up. That’s how incredibly humble she is. Who knew movie stars could be so casual? It was surprising, to say the least.
During the photo shoot, I found myself becoming less nervous as Higareda joked with the team, allowing us to snap photos as she posed for the mighty camera. Then I remembered, she’s one of Mexico’s top actresses and has starred in some of my favorite films—and here I am about to interview her! Photographer Jared Schlachet noted, “We had a great time photographing Martha! She was effortless in front of the camera. Everything about the shoot came together amazingly. Martha is beautiful and brought her amazing energy to set and there is nothing more you can ask for! We also had an amazing team that all shared in the vision and helped this shoot come to life.” Wardrobe stylist Teresita Marie pulled together the stunning looks for the shoot, while beauty stylist Brian Bond enhanced Martha’s already gorgeous features.
She chose the best place to take a seat inside the lobby of the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel—a comfy couch. As the rays of light illuminated the beautiful lobby, Higareda’s warm brown eyes widened as we practiced our Spanglish, laughing at her childhood memories.
As our interview concluded and we selfied away, Higareda didn’t just speak of her trajectory in the film industry, but rather told a story filled with determination of turning dreams into reality. She wasn’t just an incredibly talented actress, but a caring human being who was making her way in the world as a strong, vegan Latina.
