Cozy up to Fortun’s Temperature-Controlled Patio and Impressive Menu

Valentine’s Day is upon us, and as love fills the air, we must start making reservations to fill our stomachs. Fortun’s Kitchen + Bar believes that “every night is date night,” and always aims to make each meal special. For Valentine’s Day, they have taken that mindset and elevated it sevenfold, creating a menu that you’ll be sure to love just as much as you do your significant other.
Fortun’s is a hidden gem just outside of Old Town La Quinta. A new American style restaurant, they have a variety of lovely seating options—Steve’s Bar inside Fortun’s, an impressive bar that was named after and pays homage to the owner’s late brother; the dining room, which has a fine dining feel but is quite casual; and their covered, temperature-controlled patio.
Here’s a tip from someone who has eaten at Fortun’s numerous times: grab a seat on the patio! You get the best of both worlds; sitting outside with the miraculous view of the mountains, and a perfect vantage point of the sunset, all the while staying warm and toasty and feeling almost as if you were sitting inside! Not to mention the ambiance is incredibly romantic. Nothing says romance like the sun setting over dinner, am I right?
As if the location wasn’t fantastic enough, their Valentine’s Day menu is outstanding. Fortun’s decided that, contrary to what most restaurants are doing, prix fixe menus were not the way to go this year. Instead, they decided to serve upscaled versions of the dishes on their regular menu and throw in a few chef specials. They took it even one step further by perfectly pairing wines with the dishes!
Some of the decadent specialty offerings served off of their Valentine’s Day menu are Twin Lobster Tails, Steak Oscar, Rack of Lamb and Red Rose Abalone—a luxury that is hardly ever served in the desert because of its rarity!
Fortun’s also serves a Sunset menu that runs Monday-Thursday, from 3 to 5 p.m. This menu offers delicious dishes for the outstanding price of $19.95 each! On this menu, they have Mary’s Free Range Rotisserie Chicken, a favorite of mine that I order almost every time I visit Fortun’s and hardly ever finish because the portion is huge.
