Make Going Back to School Fun With This 11th Annual Surf City Event
It’s that time of year again: back-to-school shopping. Already?! We have just the place to head to make this a fun-filled activity with zero complaints from the kiddos! Huntington Beach’s 5 Points Plaza is hosting its 11th annual Learn to Skate event with skateboarding pros, music, various vendors and delicious food. Pair your back-to-school shopping with a little fun in the Surf City sun on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Back-to-School Shopping
This free community event offers kids of all ages skateboarding lessons from professionals like Mark Appleyard and Tosh Townend—you’ll get to watch them shred and demonstrate their talents too. All you need to bring is a helmet and board! Big 5 Sporting Goods at 5 Points Plaza sells skateboards, helmets, knee and elbow pads if you need to purchase your own.
Various stores at 5 Points Plaza will be offering back-to-school shopping specials. Pop into Zumiez, Vans, Tilly’s and the Gap for new ‘fits and stylin’ shoes. Global Vision Optometry is also located at 5 Points Plaza and will ensure students are going back to school with 20/20 vision. Lastly, make a stop at Trader Joe’s for all of your kid’s snack-time and lunch-box essentials. This really is a one-stop shop to prep for the new school year!
If your time is limited and you can’t stroll the entire plaza, we’re pairing four types of kids and the perfect place to shop for them.

With hundreds of styles to choose from, Vans at 5 Points Plaza has the latest collections for men, women and children, making it truly “off the wall.”
For the Skater: Zumiez
On the flip side, Zumiez caters to all things skateboarding. With cutting edge clothing, accessories and skate wear, Zumiez is the perfect destination for kids who want to hit the skatepark. Specializing in streetwear, Zumiez is well known for its vibrant and diverse brands that express individuality. From everyday attire to custom skateboard decks, this American skate shop always carries necessities for both summer and school.
Be sure to clean out closets before the event—a local charity, Stand Up for Kids, will be accepting donations of clothing and school supplies for less fortunate children around Orange County.
