Sleek and Concrete

Workshop Kitchen + Bar

A post shared by Workshop (@workshopkitchenbar) on

Boasting modern architectural design, Workshop Kitchen + Bar, with its sleek, industrial interior, was retrofitted from a building constructed in 1926, which originally served as an art gallery before becoming Palm Springs’ first theater. Wood, concrete and blackened steel provide a contemporary edge, with cathedral-like, modern light fixtures over the bar and its main seating area, earning this spot the 2015 James Beard Award for best restaurant design.

Style On a Bun

Frankinbun

A post shared by Frank N. Bun (@frankinbun) on

Tristan Gittens and his wife Candice Held opened Frankinbun, where classic hot dogs and contemporary sausages (including a vegan option) are served simply on freshly-baked buns or wrapped in waffles on sticks. The space is small, charming, and well known for its custom chinoiserie wallpaper, designed by Held, featuring their Frankinbun mascot, a hot dog in a bun. The design has become so popular that she’s created shirts to match.

Let’s Clink to Pink

The Pink Cabana at The Sands Hotel and Spa

Desert rose gives a fresh look to The Pink Cabana which is skillfully carried out in their booth cushions and napkins, and further set off by green leaf-patterned wallpaper, a vintage green and white floor tile and vintage green ceramic tile across the front of the long bar. The short-back bar stools are trimmed in brass as are the bar shelves which reflect against the bar-height-to-ceiling mirror, all creating an enjoyable retro ambiance reminiscent of a Palm Springs midcentury property.
