4 Reasons to Tune In to Palm Springs’ Virtual Modernism Week

Here’s How Modernism Week Is Keeping Your Love for Mid Mod Alive and Well

Alright, mid mod enthusiasts—we’ve got some great news for you! Modernism Week Online Experience

Palm Springs’ Modernism Week is officially in full swing this February despite a trying year of setbacks. After months of planning and adjusting, the Modernism Week team has carefully pieced together a virtual viewing experience unlike any other. From tours of famous houses and online auctions to free documentary film screenings, this is a high-tech, interactive event you won’t want to miss. Here are a few things to check out this February during the all-new Modernism Week Online Experience.

1 | Signature Home Tour Video Series Modernism Week Online Experience

One of the biggest draws of Modernism Week is the home tours. In past years, attendees walked through a variety of dreamy midcentury modern homes in neighborhoods across Greater Palm Springs. Many of these homes have ties to celebrities or an emphasis on indoor-outdoor living. This year, attendees can experience the same types of tours by virtually “walking” through the residences. “We’ve focused our attention on creating high-quality programs that match the caliber of what we have traditionally offered in-person,” says Bob Bogard, who does public relations for Modernism Week. Each home tour video was designed to showcase the houses in great detail, highlighting the architecture and different pieces of furniture or art. Ticket prices range from $15-$55 per event!

2 | Hollywood Revisited Online Musical Extravaganza

Hollywood Revisited sold out three years in a row at Modernism Week, and now, it’s gone virtual, so everyone can see the show! From the 1930s to the 1960s, Hollywood film directors demanded spectacular costumes, and studios hired the biggest designers and fashion icons to bring the glitz and the glamour that moviegoers expected to life. Collector Greg Schreiner assembled a ravishing collection of more than 300 original designer masterpieces and will share his collection with renowned vocalists dancing and singing to movie-related music while wearing the costumes.

3 | Films Modernism Week Online Experience

Mid mod enthusiasts will also have access to a variety of films that capture the journey and work of several famous architects and designers. “I am particularly excited about the three films that feature Albert Frey,” says Bob Bogard. “Two of these films had their world premiere at previous Modernism Week festivals, and one is premiering this year. They tell the fascinating story of Swiss-born Albert Frey, who emigrated to the US as a young man and defined the look of desert modernism that we all enjoy today.”

4 | Best of Modernism Auction Modernism Week Online Experience

In addition to the array of video programs, Modernism Week is also offering the Best of Modernism Auction. “This online auction during the February festival features unique architectural experiences and specialty items not typically available to the public,” explains Bogard. The team has collected a compelling assortment of auction items, including tours, overnight stays at architecturally significant properties, art, a private helicopter tour of Palm Springs, Julius Shulman-signed photographs and much more.
