Feeling a Mental Breakdown Coming? Don’t Worry, We’ve Got You Covered
Feel a menty B coming on? And, no, we’re not talking about a new female rapper or a kind of toothpaste. It’s Gen Z slang for mental breakdown. But doesn’t it just sound so much more approachable when you give it a cute nickname? Whatever you call it, it’s that feeling when you just want to throw in the towel and wave the white flag. Fear not, however, because we’ve got some remedies to tame your inner turmoil. After all, some menty Bs are not meant to be, so here are six things to do in Orange County when you’re spiraling into a state of disarray…
Feelin’ Myself
Listen, if you’re feeling a mental breakdown coming on, there’s no better place to go than the salon. Cera Salon, a one-stop beauty shop for brows, lashes and facials, knows how to make a gal feel good—like, really good. “Our clients know they will consistently get a quality service, we really value the relationships we’ve established with our clients,” says co-owners Sarah Larson and Sarah Pumphrey. Brow shaping and lash lifts are the most popular services because they reduce the time it takes to get ready during the week (we could all use that, right?). The salon itself is clean, feminine, minimalistic and community-oriented leaving you feeling relaxed and at ease the moment you step inside.
Calm Down, Dog
Get your savasana on and sign up for a yoga class at Moxi3, a club-like, neon-clad gym that has a devoted cult following. Their dimly lit yoga room will help to quiet those intrusive thoughts, and you’ll resurface zen AF. You can even scope out their infrared saunas or cryotherapy chambers to heat or chill that menty B away. Wellness mode: activated. If you’re a little too relaxed afterwards, grab a shaken espresso latte from neighboring coffee shop Huskins.
Feeling Blue?
Grounding is all the rage these days, and it is said to electrically recharge your aura—or something like that—so we recommend grabbing a light bite and speciality drink at local favorite Milligram Coffee + Kitchen and then taking your talents to John Wayne Park to catch some rays and avoid those grays. With the weather still warming up, we recommend cozying up with a cup of the soup of the day and pairing it with their pickled beet salad. Although you can’t take them to go, don’t sleep on the cocktails either. The Hugo Elderflower Spritz will buzz away any bad day.
Baby Got Back Bay
Feeling grumpy? Grab a pal or pop on a good podcast and trek the many trails of the Back Bay. Especially with the spring superbloom on full display, this popular walking path is the perfect way to keep that menty B at bay. Be sure to check out the Newport Bay Conservancy to learn more about this great city and, at the very least, use their bathrooms. These trails back up into The Ranch on Irvine, so you can just skip across and grab a buzz and a bite at uber-cool caffeine dealer Coffee Dose.

Face Your Funk
In a funk? Get a facial. After walking the Back Bay and swinging into Instagram-icon Coffee Dose, head next door to Facial Lounge—a beauty oasis that is as effective as it is aesthetically pleasing. Featuring award-winning organic vegan facials that are customized to suit your needs, Facial Lounge services include an ozone steam, deep cleansing, extraction and exfoliation, custom mask and peel, massage and a cryo globe finisher to seal and soothe. Avoid a Menty B by going online today and take their skin matchmaker quiz to sort out your specific skin needs. You just can’t be in a bad mood when your skin is glowing.
A Lido Retail Therapy
Lido Marina Village is just a hub of pure happiness with cute shop after cute shop to grab a bite, browse or just bum out. Grab a rosemary latte from Herst Coffee and a pastry from Rye Goods, then get ready to turn that frown upside down with some serious retail therapy. You can go ultra high-end at Elyse Walker, Jenni Kayne or TheRealReal—or keep things a little more casual with a trinket or two from Sugar Paper or Seavees. If you want to treat yourself to something shiny, this is your sign to stop into Marrow Fine. And you just can’t help but be happy in the company of Roller Rabbit, Stoney Clover, Minnow Swim or LoveShackFancy; these stores basically inspired the phrase, “OMG, this is so cute!”
Hot Tropic
We all know that a glass of wine a day keeps the menty B away (or wait, is that—whatever). Finish your “me day” with a stop at Semi Tropic Wines, a trendy tannin-filled natural winery nestled near the corner of Placentia and 19th St. This super-cute local joint is serving up over 200 varieties of wine, all with unique stories, ingredients and flavor profiles. They offer a rotating assortment of farm-to-table-inspired snacks and even have live jazz on Thursday nights from 6:30-9 p.m.
