One of our favorite highlights of staying here has to be the poolside lounging. Whether you’re soaking up some sun in a lounge chair or staying shady in a cabana, Lakehouse Resorts two pools, two spas and poolside bar are the perfect place to take a dip and unwind. There’s also an on-site fitness center for the fitness buffs and complimentary beach cruisers for the explorers. Plus, if anyone is craving some s’mores under the stars, there are lots of fire pits! The hotel sits in proximity to the driving range at The Links at Lakehouse too, and you can even book a gondola ride for something extra-romantic with Black Swan Gondola.

Thanks to San Diego’s weather and Lakehouse Resort’s year-round event calendar, any time is the perfect time to enjoy Lake San Marcos—but we recommend taking advantage of all the resort’s activities when you can.

One of Lake San Marcos’ primary attractions is its wide range of water activities, so for those who love to make waves, LakehouseResort’s full-service marina is a dream come true. Through the resort’s Sail Club, guests receive complimentary daily kayaks or paddleboards to explore the lake at their leisure or book a pontoon, a Duffy boat or a captain’s charter for an even more relaxing time on the water.

Local Insight: Frequent Lakehouse Resort visitors may want to consider becoming Sail Club members for exciting benefits and discounts.

While most of the lake’s attractions are water-based, there are plenty of things to do on land. Lakehouse Resort is a short drive or bike ride away from beautiful trails near Discovery Lake, and across the water, golfers can head to The Links to take some swings at the driving range or book a tee time at one of two 18-hole courses. For anyone feeling extra sporty, the resort also has tennis and pickleball courts, providing the perfect opportunity for singles, doubles and some friendly competition.

There’s so much to do at and near the lake, so we won’t blame you for staying close by all day, but if you want to visit a major attraction, don’t miss the chance to visit the San Diego Safari Park. The Safari Park is part of the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, an international, nonprofit conservation organization located only 30 minutes away from Lakehouse Resort. There are seven different safaris to choose from, including the classic Wildlife Safari, the Behind-the-Scenes Safari and the famous zipline Flightline Safari. See all the animals you’d expect to see on a safari, such as elephants, lions, giraffes, rhinos and cheetahs. Some species may even surprise you, like Matschie’s tree kangaroo, okapi, platypuses and more.

DINE + DRINK

Whether you’re getting active on this trip or are a little sun-tired from soaking up the rays, Lake San Marcos offers plenty of food options to help you refuel for even more adventures. One of our favorite spots to grab a bite is Brickmans Restaurant & Bar. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, Brickmans serves up classics with a side of stunning golf course views. Some of the restaurant’s most notable scratch-made dishes include the Dirty Double Burger, the 1/2 Brick Chicken and the Brandt Beef Steak Frites.

Local Insight: Want some tunes to go with your tasty bites? Brickmans has live music on the patio every weekend!

For foodies looking to explore the area’s best offerings, we recommend heading to Orfila Vineyards & Winery for wine tasting. Owned by Sara de Luca, the creator and founder of INVITA Café, Orfila Vineyards & Winery’s Escondido Tasting Room offers $25 wine tastings where you can enjoy four tastings of your choice, no reservations needed. Be sure to keep an eye out on Orfila’s social accounts and event calendar! The winery often collaborates with eateries for incredible pop-up dinner events.

And of course, no day at the lake would be complete without roasting some s’mores around the fire. You bring the company, Lakehouse Resort will supply everything you need, including the firepits, the graham crackers, the chocolate, the marshmallows and clear views of the starry sky.
