Beyond the stunning decor, the menu delivers: think Japanese A5 wagyu shabu-shabu, Kurobuta pork, seiro mushi and an array of seasonal sushi and sashimi. Electric from start to finish.

Starlite has been one of San Diego’s most beloved design-forward destinations since 2006, and a recent reimagining by the original design team, Bells + Whistles, in collaboration with CH Projects, made it even better. Located in Middletown on India Street, the space is an award-winning architectural achievement: a slatted hexagonal entry hallway opens to a sunken bar crowned by a striking stainless steel chandelier with embedded lights that twinkle and reflect off the mirrored ceiling. Natural stacked stone, walnut paneling, cork tile, gold pendants and black leather booths create a layered, moody atmosphere that walks the line between 1950s Mad Men glamour and something altogether more intergalactic.

The kitchen turns out serious local, farm-driven food, and the cocktail program, anchored by the legendary Starlite Mule, has been drawing converts since before craft cocktails were cool.
