Founded by Shayna Piva, Young + Rad is an apparel brand for ārad little groms.ā Inspired by surf and moto clothing, Young + Rad proves that kidswear doesnāt have to be cheesy. Piva started the brand after experiencing difficulty finding trendy, graphic T-shirts for her infant son. āI was shopping around and trying to find certain styles, [particularly] cool, effortless looks for the kids that werenāt your stereotypical dinosaurs and colorful stuff,ā describes Piva.
āI was having a hard time finding that, so I just decided that I was going to do it myself.ā
Piva started designing just for fun, but everything changed in July 2021 after people asked to buy her childās outfits. Encouraged by the feedback, she turned Young + Rad into a businessāand itās been growing ever since.
When developing new garments, Piva finds inspiration by looking at whatās fresh and innovative for adults and translating these viral concepts into clothes that resonate with parents and children alike. āMommy-and-me-type styles are such a trendā¦I thought it would be fun to take these stylesā¦and be able to have matching tees for the whole family,ā remarks Piva. Since creating the inaugural Long Live The Rad Kids design, Piva has expanded her offerings into collections for babies, toddlers, kids, adults and families. Best-selling items include the motorcycle tee as well as shirts with phrases like āLittle Legendsā or āMamaās Little Dude.ā āPeople love the sayings on the kids’ shirts,ā mentions Piva. Through her brand, Piva has cultivated a unique community of rad families. For her, the most rewarding part is seeing the impact that her designs have on familiesā lives and memories. āI get messages and photos all the time [sharing that] this is his favorite shirt, [that] they wear it all the time or [that] they pick it out when they get to choose their own clothes. Seeing how much the kids enjoy wearing the clothes has been super inspiring,ā says Piva.
